The book of Psalms is a treasure book for life. Like any treasure, its riches must be discovered—by those willing to seek and search its depths through prayerful reading. On each page of this devotional is a “pearl” I discovered for myself from a particular psalm. Using the original King James Version, I have chosen only one verse—a single pearl—from each psalm. For context, I may include an additional verse or two, but the focus remains on the one chosen verse.
Some psalms offer their gems quickly. Others require more time and quiet reflection, especially those that span many verses—from Psalm 117’s brief 2 verses to Psalm 119’s extended 176. But each one, I believe, holds something precious.
Before reading each psalm, I begin with a simple prayer:
“Lord, open Your Word to me, and open me to Your Word.”
It is my hope that what you read here will not only bless you but stir your own search for the treasures waiting within the Psalms.
Psalm 17:15 - “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.”
David contrasts the temporary pursuits of the world with the eternal treasure of knowing and being known by God. While others chase earthly gain (see verse 14), David lifts his eyes to a higher hope—beholding God’s face in righteousness and finding complete satisfaction in His presence.
This verse is more than poetic language—it’s a declaration of relationship and transformation. David longs not merely to see God, but to be like Him. This is the heart cry of the soul shaped by divine intimacy. It raises a few questions worth asking ourselves:
David has the assurance that when he “awakes,” whether from sleep or into eternal life, he will be fully satisfied—not by what God gives, but by God Himself. What a hope to hold onto in our daily journey: not only do we walk with God now, but one day, we shall see Him face to face and be like Him (1 John 3:2).
Closing Prayer:
Father,
Thank You for the promise that one day I will behold Your face in righteousness. Until that glorious day, may I find my satisfaction in You alone. Shape my heart to long for Your presence more than earthly pleasures. Transform me daily into the likeness of Christ, so that my life reflects Your character and brings You glory. Keep me faithful in the journey, content in Your righteousness, and hopeful for the day I will fully awaken in Your likeness.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
