my pearls from the psalms

One Psalm ~ One Verse

The book of Psalms is a treasure book for life. Like any treasure, its riches must be discovered—by those willing to seek and search its depths through prayerful reading. On each page of this devotional is a “pearl” I discovered for myself from a particular psalm. Using the original King James Version, I have chosen only one verse—a single pearl—from each psalm. For context, I may include an additional verse or two, but the focus remains on the one chosen verse.

Some psalms offer their gems quickly. Others require more time and quiet reflection, especially those that span many verses—from Psalm 117’s brief 2 verses to Psalm 119’s extended 176. But each one, I believe, holds something precious.

Before reading each psalm, I begin with a simple prayer:
“Lord, open Your Word to me, and open me to Your Word.”

It is my hope that what you read here will not only bless you but stir your own search for the treasures waiting within the Psalms.

Let the Word and the Meditation of my heart...

"Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God" (Psalm 20:7).

Pearl (Reflection):

It’s easy to put confidence in what looks strong—plans, people, money, or what we can control. In David’s day it was chariots and horses. Today it may be resources, influence, or “backup options.” But God’s people have a different anchor: we remember the name of the LORD our God.

To “remember” is more than recalling a fact—it’s choosing where we place our trust. Some translations say trust or boast, but the message is the same: our confidence is not in ourselves, but in the Lord. When fear rises and the outcome is uncertain, this verse calls us back to what is true—God is faithful and fully in control.

So today we surrender again and rest our hearts in Him.

Jesus, You got this!

Prayer:

Lord, when I’m tempted to trust in what I can see and control, bring me back to You. Help me remember Your name—Your character, Your power, and Your faithfulness. I surrender my worries and my plans into Your hands. Teach me to trust You fully today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
